What is symbicort inhaler
Symbicort inhaler is a prescription medication used to help control and prevent symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two active ingredients: budesonide, an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways, and formoterol, a long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles around the airways to improve breathing. Together, these medicines help reduce wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
Symbicort is used as a maintenance treatment and should be taken regularly as prescribed, even when symptoms are well controlled. It helps prevent asthma attacks and COPD flare-ups but is not intended to provide immediate relief during a sudden breathing emergency. A fast-acting rescue inhaler should be used for sudden symptoms unless your healthcare provider has advised a different treatment plan.
Regular use of Symbicort can improve lung function, reduce the frequency of flare-ups, and enhance quality of life. It is available in different strengths to suit individual treatment needs. To achieve the best results, use the inhaler correctly and attend regular medical check-ups to monitor your condition and adjust treatment if necessary.
Use the Symbicort inhaler exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Before the first use or if the inhaler has not been used for several days, prime it according to the product instructions. Shake the inhaler well before each puff, breathe out fully, place the mouthpiece between your lips, and press the canister while inhaling slowly and deeply. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out gently. If a second puff is prescribed, wait about 30 seconds before repeating the steps.
